Nurseries that offer full day care, in England, must be registered with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).
If the Nursery cares for children up to five years old, then they must be registered on the Early Years Register.
If they care for children up to the age of eight years old, then they should be registered on the compulsory part of the Childcare Register.

When choosing a nursery, consider the following points;

• Visit the nursery with your child. Are you made to feel welcome and included?
• Discuss the nursery's policies on things such as behaviour management and diet.
• What are the staff qualifications and check staffing ratios, adults to children.
• Are the children you see at the nursery well occupied, do they look happy?
• What are the emergency procedures?
• Look at the rooms and building, is it clean and well organised, are there safe play areas, inside or outside? Does the equipment look like it is of good quality, safe and appropriate for the age of the children?
